EVMO Project Participation and Funding Details
The EVMO project is currently supported by industry leaders New Gold Inc, Agnico Eagle Mines, Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations (a Glencore company), and NRCan-CanmetMINING. These entities, along with a representative from the Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator (MICA), form the project's steering committee.
The project is partially funded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) through the education and awareness project funding – clean transportation and clean fuels, with additional investment from MICA.
Objective of the Electric Vehicles in Mining Operations (EVMO) Project
The EVMO project was established to drive the successful expansion of electric vehicle fleets by providing insights and promoting collaborative education and awareness across the industry.
Mandate
The first mandate focuses on understanding and raising awareness about the challenges that may hinder the widespread adoption of BEV fleets in mining operations. This will be achieved by:
- Visiting and obtaining insights from three of the most advanced BEV operations in Canada.
- Distributing those insights as white papers and webinars.
Guidance
The project is guided by a steering committee composed of industry experts and innovation leads from the participating mines.
Get involved, contribute to accelerated BEV Adoption
The EVMO project is designed to continue as a multi-year initiative, currently funded through June 2025. Research and outcomes are primarily being conducted at the three participating mines. As the project evolves, we anticipate the need for more participants, especially as we start developing resources such as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models, risk management guidelines, and data strategies. At this stage, obtaining additional feedback from a broader audience will be crucial.
Given that the project's initial mandate is primarily research-focused, we highly value any additional insights, papers, or trial results that could enhance the robustness of our findings.

Whitepapers, other tools designed to accelerate the transition to BEV's
The project is built on an open framework, ensuring that all materials created will be accessible through this webpage and a newsletter under a creative commons license. MICA is generously hosting the newsletter and providing their platform to distribute content via webinars to broaden its reach.
Throughout the project, we will be releasing whitepapers and other tools designed to accelerate the transition to all-electric fleets in mining operations.
Consider signing up for the newsletter to stay updated on the project’s progress and receive notifications when new material is being published.
For those on LinkedIn, there is an active showcase page that will also distribute information regularly.
